Why buy bar soap?
Bar soap is one of the easiest ways to help lower your environmental impact. It requires no plastic packaging, ships with less wasted space, and requires no chemical preservatives.
I love bodywash. Why is bar soap better?
All bodywash contains water, and water can grow harmful bacteria. Any product made with water, requires a chemical preservative. Our bar soap is solid, and does not contain any harmful chemical preservatives. In addition, most bodywashes are packaged in plastic and many contain microbeads which are harmful for waterways and oceans. By purchasing our bar soap, you are lowering your plastic consumption, and keeping harmful chemicals off your skin.
I think bar soap should be cheap. Why is your bar soap so expensive?
Our bar soap is expensive, because the ingredients that go into it are expensive. Our soap is formulated with the same precious and expensive oils that other people sell as face serums and body oils. Face serums from other companies regularly sell for 20-30 or more dollars per ounce. Our soap is 4-4.5oz for each bar. It comes down to math. These same oils are ones that you will find in our soap to nourish the skin. It costs more, but it is what sets are soap apart from others. Argan, evening primrose, rosehip, apricot kernel, tamanu, hempseed, are some of the oils we use in our soap. Bar soap can come in many different formulations, and by choosing the right bar for your skin, you can replace most of the products in your beauty regimen. A properly balanced soap for your skin type, will eliminate the need for all the fancy oils in their little bottles, because you are being moisturized by these same oils, EVERYTIME YOU WASH. A bar of soap should leave your skin feeling refreshed and not dry. If the soap is drying, you are using the wrong kind for your skin type.
Why should I buy your soap?
Your skin is your largest organ, and everything that you put on your skin, is absorbed into your body. The average woman puts 165 different chemicals on her skin, every day! Many of these are known carcinogens, endocrine disruptors, or haven't been tested at all for effects on the human body! YIKES! At Brooklyn Soapworks, we care about your health, and the health of the planet. All of our ingredients come from nature, and we source to make sure that our suppliers are doing right by the eco system. We buy fair trade, sustainably harvested and wild crafted. Our soap is made from many of the ingredients you would find in your own kitchen: olive oil, coconut oil, sunflower oil, rosemary and peppermint, just to name a few. By using our soap your are eliminating those chemicals from your beauty regimen and keeping chemicals out of our waterways and soil systems. You are also helping us, support our suppliers, which are in turn supporting a thriving natural eco system. WIN, WIN!
Your soap looks nice, but why isn't it wrapped?
When is the last time you held on to the paper label of your bar of soap? Probably never. Paper is pretty, but we believe it should be saved for things like note writing and gift wrapping. Our soap comes without paper packaging, because wrapping your bar of soap is wasteful. The soap is pretty just the way it is.
